Tassili n’Ajjer National Park

With some appalling politicians strutting the world stage, blundering from one debacle to another, and creating turmoil in the world’s oil markets, travelling has become a risky business. You can book the tickets, but that’s no guarantee that those flights will ever take place, or that the return flight will be possible. The uncertainty demands caution. But I long to be away again.

On my wishlist is Tassili n’Ajjer National Park, jewel of the Sahara. Tassili n’Ajjer is a vast, otherworldly sandstone plateau in the Sahara Desert of southeastern Algeria. Covering over 72,000 square kilometers, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its surreal “forests of stone,” deep canyons, and an unparalleled collection of over 15,000 prehistoric cave paintings and engravings

I’m planning to do this trip in the next 2-3 years, so we can plan properly. The country is quite dangerous, so we’ll need to hire protection. But what an experience, what a stunning area!
