The route from Zion National Park in Utah to Monument Valley AZ, via Highway 89 to Kanab, goes through landscapes that I found interesting from a landscape painter’s viewpoint. I’ll record some of my impressions here for future reference. It’s not a conventionally scenic route and there are no turnouts for tourists to take photos, so I stopped repeatedly on the road verge. Very reminiscent of parts of Africa and Australia, the landscape had the universal appeal of undisturbed desolation. There are scenes like this all over the universe, I’d wager.
